Search Engine Optimization — Good Content and Good Infrastructure in SEO

Search Engine Optimization Fundamentals | Stacey Morgan Smith

Content is King.

With quality, relevant, optimized content, other sites will link to you, visitors will spend time on your site, and the search engines will find you – the basic goals of search engine optimization.

But Content isn’t Everything!

If your DNS is blocked, pages on your site move and can’t be found, or your site takes too long to load, your content will not only be invisible to visitors but to seach engines, as well.

Your Server is Important.

Do you have your own server, or are you sharing space? Sharing is cheaper, but what if one of the sites on your shared server just sent out another spam message? If the DNS is blocked, your site could suffer. With dedicated hosting, your site is the only one on the server.

Your Load Time is Important.

Would you wait two seconds to see a page load? If it’s something you’ve seen before and know is valuable, you might, but if you’re searching for information, any hangup is a reason to hit the back button. If something on your page is increasing your load time, evalute and fix the problem. Great content won’t snag a searcher’s attention if they don’t get to the page.

Your Redirects are Important.

You’ve written a great page, and it gets a lot of new and return visits, but what if you change the structure of your site and the page is moved? A 301 redirect sends visitors to the new location without any dings to your search engine optimization efforts.

Take the time to ensure the technical aspects of your site are up to speed. If you’re not sure where to start, NetStrategies can help.

    Hi Stacey,

These are very important points you are making. Hosting does make a big difference, I learned that from experience. Your potential clients are looking for instant answers. Even if you rank highly on the search engines if your site is not loading quickly enough your clients will hit the “back” icon and look a the next website on the search engine results page.

What may seem like little things make a big difference.

    Great information!
